Ideas!

One of the aims of the Thatcham Vision project is to involve more people in thinking about the future of the town.  We're doing this in lots of ways - here are a few you might like to try.

Time travel

See if you can spot your house (or, more likely, the field or marsh where it was built) on this 1935 map and then take a look at the developed area on this map- click on 'satellite' to see a satellite picture of the town.  (If Googlemaps tells you that you've zoomed in too close to see the satellite image, you may have to zoom out a little using the slider on the left of the page.  Use the back button on your browser to return to this page.)

How would you like Thatcham to look in the future?  Exactly as it is now? Bigger, but with better facilities?  Part of Newbury?  We'd like your maps of the future Thatcham - 5, 10 or 15 years from now.  You could draw a map of the whole town, or just part of it: the town centre, for example.

The Thatcham Weekly News - 2013

Another way to picture the future is to write a newspaper article describing something you'd like to see, or perhaps your worst fear for the future.  There's an example here which is based on the idea of providing cheap or free wireless broadband access in Thatcham - something that we've been investigating as part of the Thatcham Vision project.

We'd like your articles, letters to the editor, advertisements - or anything else you might expect to see in a newspaper.  Please email them to us at this address.

The best and worst of Thatcham - we want your pictures!

We're building up a gallery of photographs of the best and worst of Thatcham.  Most of the photographs in our gallery to-date have been taken by local resident Mike Cass.

Click on this link to visit the gallery.  Do you think our current collection reflects the best and worst of Thatcham?  If not, send us your pictures.

You can email digital photographs to us or, if you prefer, lend or send us prints and we'll scan them and add them to our website.
